How do I make a background image come through the foreground?

If you mean by the following image effect:


  1. Switch to layout mode
  2. Place image in Pages and size accordingly
    1. Duplicate the image (the duplicate becomes the foreground image)
    2. Format menu > Image > Mask with Shape
      1. Choose, or create the mask shape
      2. Scale and position as appropriate
      3. Click Done. Your duplicate is now inside this mask, and the original is now the background image.
      4. You may wish to group background image and foreground image mask to retain position.
  3. On the Pages v5 format panel, choose Image, and reduce opacity to fade the original image as desired.

    If you want this background image (or image and mask) on multiple pages

    1. Select image and mask. Arrange menu > Section Masters > Move Objects to Section Master
