Remote app has stopped working. Hav updated all software as oer advice on www. Has worked for about 2 years with zero problems and last night, Stopped.

Basically, I was watching something on Netflix last night, programme ended and when I went to use Remote app in ipad (and subsequently my ipod), it just says "Turn on home sharing in itunes or on Apple tv...". I turned off Home sharing and on again on both these devises and my Mac.
Basically the remote doesn't want to work so I cannot access Apple TV. The opening screen comes on my tv, i.e. Netflix, You Tube, etc. But I cannot access them.
I updated my itunes, ipad. Anything that I saw in any forum. Does that help? I am at a loss now.

Remote app requires IOS device and ATV to be on the same network, and home sharing enabled on ATV as well. If something has changed with the network or if home sharing is not enabled you will need a physical remote to setup. The alternative is a bluetooth keyboard or IR universal remote like Logitech Harmony.
