Memory leak issue while importing photos via iphoto

I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011). I am trying to import RAW photos that I took in my Nikon D3200 to iPhoto, as soon as I click import, iPhoto consumes all my memory and my machine wont respond anymore. This is happening when I have upgraded RAW Compatibility to Update 6.02. I am pretty sure that there is something wrong with this update, because I tried to revert back to Update 5.07 and imports worked perfectly fine.

Is there an alternative other than reverting back to old version? Thanks in advance.
