iTunes music doesn't play on iPhone 5S

I've activated iTunes Match and Genius, so now most of my songs are in the cloud (only a handful are downloaded to my iPhone 5S), however whenever I play music (using both wifi and data), none of music plays unless I manually move the play bar. And once the song plays, it stops and doesn't progress to the next song. My iPhone has the latest upgrade installed. There are no updates to iTunes. Any advice on how to fix this issue?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1.3

Hi dawonhawkins,

It may help to rest your iPhone by holding the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until you see the Apple logo on your iPhone's screen.

Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

If your music still doesn't play on your iPhone, the next step would be to reinstall iOS by turning your iPhone off and holding the Home button while connecting it to your computer. When prompted, choose 'Update' to reinstall iOS 8 on your device without affecting your existing data.

  1. Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
  2. Put your device in recovery mode.
  3. When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
