Hi I have a mac mini server 2011. i7 with dual 500gb 7200 hard drives. For some reason it will only see one hard drive. If I disconnect 1 drive from the logic board it will boot off the other one, Both hard drives are bootable but only 1 is detected. If I disconnect one the other drive then will boot, but if they are both connected, only 1 is detected
Where are you looking?
Are those the original HDs?
What does Disk Utility show?

I looked in disk utility as well as about this mac. These are the original drives. Disk utility only shows one drive
I also booted into recovery mode and checked diskutility in terminal

Hi, I beleive the nvram reset, I heard the startup sound go off 2x while holding in the specified key sequence. Still no luck though, I really don't know what I need to do.
- Maybe this will show something but I doubt it
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Are you using RAID 1 (mirroring)? If you are, that explains the 1 drive and why you can boot from either drive as they are a mirror image of one another.
But would not Disk Utility show both physical drives?
I would think not. Similar to a Fusion Drive. We don't see both physical drives (SSD and HDD) in Disk Utility. /Application/Utilities/System Information may show both physical drives under SATA/SATA Express.
I though it might be setup with RAID, but doesn't seem like that's the case. The weird thing is that lot I can disconnect one drive and boot off of it, but if both are in plugged in only 1 is detected.
Check /Applications/Utilities/System Information and see if the SATA/SATA Express shows both drives (1 on each SATA port).
Booting exactly off each drive tells me RAID 1 mirroring. The only time I had a drive not show up after taking apart my Mac Mini was the SATA cable to the drive was not seated completely (the end plugged into the drive). Once I seated it, it showed up.
It only shows the 1 drive connected. I'll try and make sure everything is properly connected
