iPhone5 charger port does not recognize the charger; phone is now totally discharged. Help!

Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, how was it resolved?

Try a different lightning cable. If that doesn't work, inspect the port for debris, and if there is lint or other stuff inside, use a wooden tooth pick or a plastic tooth pick to remove the lint/debris. If this still doesn't work, you may want to schedule an appointment at the genius bar to have the device evaluated.
