Add more GB & Memory

I have 10.6.8 snow leopard on my old (2005) iMac, I want to add more GB Memory. I was told by MicroCenter that I could go from 1GB to 4GB (they charge $35 for GB and $29 for memory). Can I do this myself for less money and is it hard to do?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Proc: 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2.1G mem

Assuming its a G5 iMac it can only go up to 2GB. not 4. if its 2006 iMac it can go up to 4GB.

Not sure what those prices mean. As memory is measured in GB also. so basically you are getting 2 prices for the same thing?

So its not clear what they are charging you for.

Macsales.com should have Ram for your particular model of Mac.
