on both devices go to settings > icloud
make sure both are signed into the same account and turn the contacts switch on for both
I did as you suggested but a contacts icon is not on my iPhone 6 display. How do I add the icon to my phone like the contacts icon that is on my iPad display?
Contacts app might be in a folder called Extras or Utilities.
Go look for it.
I found it. Thanks for your help.
You're welcome.
BTW, you can drag it out of the folder if you like.

I use an app called TunesGo.
It allows me to transfer between iDevices and also my computer,
all wirelessly of course. Check it out, you might like it.
Thank you. I successfully used a previous answer using iCloud to copy contacts. But your advice has wide application to things I will be doing with my iMac, iPad and iPhone 6.
No need to download anything especially trial ware.
You can do all that without it.
