i have an apple id that i share with my kids so we can all share music however it means they can also see all of my photos and notes and reminders on my phone. how can i have all of that info on my phone PRIVATE yet share the same apple id for music purchases with my kids?

I see that you wish to share access to music and apps between multiple people in your family, but you do not wish to share all of the information that comes with an Apple ID. I think the best option for you would be to utilize Family Sharing in order to achieve your goal:
