Black flickering Mac Mini & Apple Display

I have a 2011 Mac Mini i5 2.5Ghz 4GB RAM and have just plugged an Apple Display in via Thunderbolt. Latest version of Yosemite.

The display is fine for most of time, but then suddenly it will start 'blacking out' for half a second before returning to normal. This tends to happen every 10-15 seconds.

What could be causing this?

What specific monitor?

Do other monitors work OK when connected to same port?

Does the monitor work OK when connected to another computer?

It is the Apple 24" Cinema Display (A1267).

Other monitors have never been a problem (had a 22" HP plugged in for a couple of years).

No problems on other computers.
