iCloud did not back up pictures

my iPhone 5s was recently stolen. I ended up erasing my iphone data for security reasons. When I checked my iCloud settings there were no photos or anything else backed up. I recently upgraded to the 200gb storage plan and there is 20gb of something that is stored. Any thoughts on what happened or if there is any way to recovery my photos?

Did you have automatic iCloud backups turned On?

if so, the iCloud backup should contain all the photos that were in your camera roll. Note that the photos are saved as parts of the one backup file. The photos are not saved individually and you will see no photos in iCloud.

Check Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage > Backups to see your backup file (if any).

To restore from an iCloud backup see here: iCloud: Restore or set up your iOS device from iCloud
