once you have upgraded your iphone 5s that you are currently using as an iPod to the latest iOS would you be required to activate it with a sim card if its locked to a carrier when it restarts after the upgrading process ? many thanks

If it asks you to activate it, then yes. We would have no way to know what your particular device might do.

no as in like i thought activation is just for once when you first bought the fone with the original carrier except when you reset the device then it'd be asking for activation ?!
