1. Uninstall ESET. It is capable of nothing beneficial and your Mac cannot operate properly with it installed.

ESET offers no obvious way to uninstall it. To do that you must use the "Eset Cyber Security Pro Setup Wizard" included with its installation package.

Use the Uninstall icon:

Disregard the blatantly fraudulent "Warning!" that appears:

User uploaded file

Lie about the reason in the following step, which cannot be bypassed. ESET's developer is disingenuous and expects the same of its users:

ESET's uninstaller leaves components behind but it is sufficiently effective to render this piece of trash inert.

2. Uninstall Synium "CleanApp":

http://www.syniumsoftware.com/support/faq/cleanapp/how_do_i_uninstall_cleanapp.h tml

Verify that it is completely eradicated from your Mac, and then evaluate your Mac's performance.

I have no idea whether the above instructions will rid your Mac of all "CleanApp" components. I recommend avoidance of all such "cleaning" garbage. They are all scams commonly responsible for system corruption that cannot be reversed without erasing your Mac and reconfiguring it from the ground up. If you determine that will be required, write back for specific instructions.

Back up your Mac prior to making any changes to its file system.

John thank you, I will certainly investigate and trial your solution though I have run both applications without difficulty for 3 or 4 years as has my wife on her machine. The failure to wake Safrai access prompted me to reinstall Yosemite to try and remedy the problem. The following Safari console log repeated here causes me concern and I have not a clue a. what it means, b. how to rectify it and am wondering of this is a contributory factor. Certainly the reinstallation made no difference but the 'coutesy' notice is scary!

Copy of part of Safari log

06/02/2015 13:06:39.256 Safari638]: CGWindowContextGState: invalid context 0x0

This is a serious error. This application, or a library it uses, is using an invalid context and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system stability and reliability. This notice is a courtesy; please fix this problem. It will become a fatal error in an upcoming update.

Those log entries are not necessarily any cause for concern, but the first step in troubleshooting any potential software conflicts is to remove anything not required or beneficial. The two I suggested are only a couple that can't possibly do any good, and whose presence will only add to the uncertainty.

The problem you're describing seems to be common and may be unrelated to either one. Failure to reconnect Wi-Fi after waking from sleep has been reported elsewhere on this site, as are a few other common afflictions. Having never experienced it on any of my Macs, I have not paid much attention to those reports.

In general though, if you modify your Mac's operating system in the manner yours has been modified, you invite those kinds of problems. That's the reason for suggesting you get rid of ESET, which is one of several such products I personally evaluated. Some of them are blatantly malicious, but even if they are not they're all equally worthless. Their presence can only complicate matters.

John

Your help much appreciated. Your comments regarding the log report are welcomed, I had been puzzling over the implications for weeks!

I have taken your advice and uninstalled both ESET and CLeanApp from my DeskPro and my wife's too. Both seem happier. I have yet to really put the sleep/awake experience to test to see whether the ethernet connection to my router and web browser re-establish a web connection on wake if the browser is asleep.
