Enable only 5Ghz radio (disable 2,4Ghz radio)

Hi,

I have a Time Capsule 2TB and to avoid interference with corporate wireless I need to disable the 2,4Ghz radio and enable only 5Ghz radio.

Is this possible?

Thaks in advance,

Toni

Update: It is possible to disable the 2.4GHz (a/b/g) radio:

In the Airport Utility for the Airport Extreme (Version 7.7.8) you can disable the 2.4GHz. Wireless>>Wireless Options...>>2.4GHz Channel there is an "off" option that turns off the 2.4GHz radio. I needed to do this to be able to use the internal and external trackpads (Bluetooth/2.4GHz) with my Macbook Air (late 2015). The airport extreme is beside my desk and when the Macbook Air is on the desk itself the trackpads were both slow to respond and the mouse jumped across the screen rather than smoothly moving about.

In the AirPort Utility, you should be able to choose Advanced settings and

then choose Channel and Network type; depending on the model Time

Capsule (and airport extreme) you may still be able to choose 5GHz band

only, but this may limit you to using one (perhaps "N-only" in that band.)

Some of the available information is sketchy but the product information

specific to your build model, maybe in a user manual in .pdf etc, should

show these kinds of details. This was a method to lock-in only 5GHz in

models about 2 years ago, so the 2.4GHz would not also be in use.

The 2.4GHz usually carries further the the 5GHz, so whatever you run in

only that band wavelength may suffer drops and loss of connection near

the limits of the frequency; this will vary depending on obstacles, etc.

PS: you may have to consider some other brand of product if you are

locked into the need for 5GHz band & if the Apple products can't be

made to selectively use it. Some were, and there was evidence online.

Hopefully someone with more experience setting up several of these will

see your thread & reply with additional information.

Good luck...! 🙂
