Usb splitter macbook air

Can anyone recommend a USB hub / USB splitter for my Macbook Air? I have a Belkin one but when I attach it, half the devices stop working. I need to plug in the following devices:

- keyboard

- wireless mouse

- external hard drive

- printer

- external CD drive

At the moment, when I use the splitter, the mouse stops working or only works intermittently, the wifi connection for the whole computer often stops, and none of the external devices work very well at all. It may just be that mine is faulty but before I invest in another, I would love to know if anyone else has had this problem and what solutions you have found?
