I can't wake up macbook pro in closed clam shell mode with wireless Logitech Keyboard or Mouse when trying to use an external monitor

I have connected a Samsung monitor by HDMI and am using a logitech solar wireless keyboard with wireless mouse with my Macbook Pro 2.3 GHZ Intel Core i7 OSX 10.9.5 16GB 1600MHz DDR3. I have set the Bluetooth preferences to wake up with external device. The closed Macbook will not awaken with the use of these devices.
