Will disabling auto-lock eat up battery?

I had my 5S set for auto-locking every 5 minutes; it was either than or "never". It is so frustrating to have to keep entering the password, and the fingerprint frequently doesn't work. Will changing that to "never" cause the battery to discharge more frequently? Seems like the last time I tried it, the battery drained much faster.
