why change apple id from aol email?
What is the reasoning behind this having to change my Apple ID from my AOL email account to another email account? Why ? Why? Why?

You don't. If you've been signing into AppleID with an AOL email address, you can continue doing so.
If you've been signing in with an AOL screen name (just the part before @AOL.com) you must change it.
