FaceTime Settings will not let me select my phone number?

Our family uses one Apple ID for the cloud & iTunes, however we want separate accounts for FaceTime & iMessaging. On my husband's phone we cannot select his Phone number for FaceTime. It is SHOWN(listed) however he cannot check it, only his email address.

PLease advise.

iPhone 5c, iOS 8.1.3

Did you try to switch off FaceTime, reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again and then activate FaceTime again? You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.

I have two devices using the same Apple ID and I can see both phone numbers listed and on each device I have been able to select the correct phone number, which after that got grayed out and the other one is still selectable.
