High use of RAM

I note when using Yosemite (by the Activity Monitor) a very high use of RAM when I don't even have any chosen apps running. Why?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), Model – iMac 13,2.

Hello Allan,

Many thanks for your response. I tried a few ways of copying to your response but this was the only way it seemed to work.

Uninstall Rapport, Sophos and CleanMyMac2. The are both crapware. All they do is use an inordinate amount of resources on your and return no benefits for that at all.

My guess is that having both Rapport and Sophos installed at the same time are the cause of the slowness on your Mac. Either one is bad but have both install at the same time is horrible.m

You need to remove the adware

Try http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php to get rid of the adware.

Oh, by the way you need a larger disk drive for your backups.

Mar 5, 2015 7:21 AM in response to PeterPofPennington

RAM usage is NOT the problem with your computer. It is riddled with junk software and AdWare.

You need to rid it of Sophos, Trusteer Rapport, CleanMyMac2, AppCleaner.

Please review the options below to determine which method is best to remove the Adware installed on your computer.

The Easy, safe, effective method:

http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php

If you are comfortable doing manual file removals use the somewhat more difficult method:

Many thanks Allan (and Steadman1 for your comments).

Have downloaded the adware medic and it found 2 files!

For information looking on the activity monitor I see the following (as we are communicating):

Physical Memory: 12:00 GB

Memory used: 7.63 GB

Virtual Memory: 12.00 GB

This is what I don't understand. Unless you're saying that by removing the 'apps' suggested that will considerably reduce RAM usage?

Mar 5, 2015 8:03 AM in response to PeterPofPennington

Yosemite will handle RAM usage differently and it will use it all. That is what it is designed to do.

I'd suggest you get rid of all the cr*pware on your machine including (they will make any Mac OS c.r.a.w.l):
