stabilize clips in final cut pro x - corrupted

A strange thing when working on a project where I successfully stabilized clips, however when I edit the clip it loses the stabilization, even though the stabilize has been completed.

I have tried removing the clip and re-stabilizing with no effect, and no longer shows clip stabilized even though it is selected. Switching to smooth or inertia has no effect.

Is the a way to force it or reset it?

I have tried removing preferences and restarts, but for some reason some clips fail to show the initial stabilized version - as if no effect?
