Running a mid-2014 MacBook Air with Yosemite. Do receive new mail notifications banners, but the new mail notification sound only appears 60 seconds after. On my iMAC and iOS devices, mail notifications and sound appear together. Why the delay in sound and is there a fix for this?

Same here - for quite a long time. I have no more hope Apple is going to fix that.
There are many little annoying bugs and glitches but Apple seems to have lost that focus on detail and quality.
I've had same issue for ages even after re-installing OS X from scatch. Opened case with Apple Support and supplied logs etc and never got solved 😟 Happened with Mavericks and Yosemite with freshly installed on my Mac Mini 2012
