I’ve read of a lot of older systems having many critical problems in upgrading to Yosemite. I’m getting messages now to upgrade my Safari in order to continue using financial applications. Cannot upgrade Safari without upgrading operating system. Don’t want to go to Yosemite, yet with all their problems. Question; Are their problems upgrading to Mountain Lion?

Nothing forces you to use Safari. Switch to Firefox, and you can keep using the excellent OS you have. You can always try Yosemite on a separate hard drive: no need to let it upgrade your current system drive. You should not upgrade at all unless you have a complete backup of your system drive.
