I've just switched to Apple and needs to learn a lot. I've got myself an iPhone 6 and I was moving the original icons around, but it seems that the photo icon disappeared. How can I get it back? Also, it there an icon to use to check the battery?

The Photos App cannot be deleted so you may have hidden it by dragging it over another icon and thereby creating an App folder or you may have moved it off on to another page.
To find it do a search on the iPhone for Photos.
You can also use Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout to restore things to default.
