I cannot find an Apple "announcement" - but having participated in one these previously on 20Feb2015 - predating the many Google results of "breaking stories" - the scoundrels have indeed had time to craft their SCAMail programs.

Mar 6, 2015 3:54 AM in response to glennfromfindochertyby turingtest2,The link as given above Convert your AOL Username to an Apple ID has the details, however you only need to make this change if your AppleID is based on an AOL screen name rather than an email address that ends in say @aol.com or @aol.co.uk.
If you're not sure, sign out of the iTunes Store, then sign in again.
