my sound cut out randomly yesterday and I suspected that it was on mute but it wasn't and nothing I try listening to/watching even has a volume control. It's like volume never existed in the first place.
I Reset the factory settings, had it off for 4 hours, and cleaned the ports....nothing.

What do you mean by, "Reset the factory settings"?
Did you follow the procedures here: Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
Try a device reset:
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
I Did settings->reset->reset all settings. I've tried booting it a lot. When I go to the sound settings and I adjust the volume for the ringtone/alert the sound comes through. There just isn't a volume control and the sound doesn't work...like its on mute but it isn't on mute.
Ipad 2 has no sound, no bar, and side buttons don't work.
