how do you flip an image for iron on transfers

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly which application you are intending to use, but if you would like to to flip an image either horizontally or vertically in Preview, you may find the steps outlined in the following article helpful:

Rotate or flip an image

Rotate an image: Select the image, then click the Rotate button You can also choose Tools > Rotate Left or Rotate Right.

Flip an image: Choose Tools > Flip Horizontal or Flip Vertical.

Tip: To rotate or flip multiple images at the same time, display the images in the same window, choose View > Thumbnails, select them in that window’s sidebar, then choose Tools > [ Rotate or Flip].

So basically you're creating a mirror image.

What Brenden says will work.

If you're in Photoshop - select your image - image drop down - flip horizontal.
