I have a mid 2012 13" macbook pro. I think I need to add more memory as it is SO slow when running applications. Can I add 16gb or can it only take 8gb per the apple page? Thanks!

If it's not a Retina model, it can take 16GB. If it is, the RAM is soldered and not upgradable.

Hi Niel - thank you for the response. I don't think it's a retina model - but where could I confirm? Will adding the 16GB make a difference when running multiple applications (adobe illustrator, excel, etc). Currently, I'm getting the spinning wheel for many things when I toggle between applications (and it is super slow to log in with password after being away for brief periods of time).
1. Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on More Info, and find the model identifier. It'll be MacBookPro9,2 for a non-Retina model and MacBookPro10,2 for a Retina one.
