Send a gift from the App Store and it didnt use verified gift card

I sent a gift from the App Store. In the final stages of the purchasing process, it didnt use my gift card nor did it give me a payment option. I didnt want to pay with my credit card, just my gift card. An error popped up and initally said I needed to submit a payment option. I added an additional gift card. That didnt work--I had to add my credit card and then it let me continue with the gifting process (adding the recipient's email etc. etc.)
