Turn off autocomplete in Mail - the unanswered question

I've just switched onto a new mac in our studio, going from an older MacPro on 10.5 to a newer iMac.


Current spec is OS 10.9.5 with Mail 7.3


As I deal with many different customers with similar names, I used to have autocomplete addresses turned off in Mail. This forced me to manually select the email addresses I want from my Contacts book and not end up sending emails to the wrong person which could (has) proved embarrassing.


It used to be Preferences - Composing - Addressing - Automatically Complete Addresses.


However it is not longer there in Mail.


This question has been asked a few times on this and other forums and doesn't ever get a reply.


Surely there is a way to turn autocomplete off ?

This forced me to manually select the email addresses I want from my Contacts book...


Rather than type in the address field, which triggers autocomplete, Click "+" to choose people from Contacts, then press Enter.
