How do you uncheck songs and TV shows in iTunes?

I have iTunes 12.1.0.50. Everytime I try to uncheck a box an exclamation point in a circle pops up. Its extremely frustrating and I can't figure it out.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Hi Ky1017,


The exclamation point symbol next to songs or other media in iTunes means that the application is unable to locate the media file for that item, or it was purchased but not downloaded. This article tells how you can correct the issue -
