Terrible lagging after upgrade HDD to SSD

So, I upgraded to SSD a few hours ago expecting that my Macbook getting better. But I got the opposite of it. I am sure why. I am using 512gb Crucial MX100. I erased it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then cloned my content using Carbon Copy Cleaner and swap the HDD with SDD later on. After a few minutes of excitement, I have found out that my laptop is a slow as a dead snail.

Here is what I have done to fix the problem:

1) Verify and Repair disk permissions

2) Restart for like tons of times.

3) Read thread but it's either I could not find the solution or the language is totally alien to me even though it's in English.

4) Sleep late and might miss my class tomorrow. It's almost 4am in the morning.

So my question is, what do? I would prefer not to spend anymore money because this ssd just made a **** big hole on my wallet.

Here is the Etre Check I have done:

Go to about this mac and select System Report. Click on the Sata link under hardware. Select the drive and look at the link speed of the drive. See if it is connecting at the speed of the drive specs. It should be linking at 6GHZ if it is working properly.

Af far as the report you gave, you have some garbage items such as MacAfee as Eric pointed out. You also have a lot of startup items. The report says they are obsolete from the way I read it, but then I'm not very good at reading reports. Start up is safe mode and see if it performs better. That will disable all third party apps and startup items.

mds is Spotlight indexing your drive. In theory it is doing this because to Spotlight your cloned drive is new (UUID is different from the original).

After Spotlight finishes, AND you get rid of McAfee and any of those other 3rd party additions you really do not need, hopefully your system will quiet down.

If Spotlight does not quiet down, then maybe you need to blow away your current Spotlight index and start from scratch (Google can help you with instructions on creating clean new Spotlight indexes).

You might also want to look at the Firefox extensions you have installed, and the web pages you have open to see if any of them are consuming the 18% reported for Firefox. Sometimes I get a web page that has javascript that goes a little nuts, and jacks up the CPU. I close the tab and the CPU drops back down to something more reasonable. You might want to export that as well.

Make a full backup before attempting any cleanup.

Blackberry Desktop has a Mac uninstaller in the Download IIRC. It might be this…

http://uk.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html

Or search RIM's site for the removal instructions.

Virtualbox is from 2012, it has kernel extensions installed. These can modify how the OS talks to hardware - they really need to be kept up to date or removed.

To remove them correctly involves searching for an uninstaller (on the developers site) or finding instructions to remove all the relevant components.

Check the 360 & PS3 drivers are up to date & supported on 10.10.

All of the /System/Library/StartupItems/ are now obsolete.

Once again the correct way to remove them is via the uninstaller or developers removal instructions. I don't think they get loaded on 10.10, so you may be able to delete them & reboot (move them to another disk if you are concerned you need them). This will leave other components from those apps behind - it's a last resort! They 'owned' by the system so an admin password will be requested to delete them in Finder.

Steamclean is failing, launch the app & see if it has updates (steam always has updates 🙂).

Daylight is also falling to run in the background… is it installed & up to date?

Epson's 'event manager' is failing too (update or remove it).

Don't forget to look for updates for the following

Cisco anyconnect

Citrix (I'm not sure what app uses com.citrix.AuthManager_Mac.plist com.citrix.ReceiverHelper.plist com.citrix.ServiceRecords.plist)

…and all the other Launch Agents and Launch Daemons.

Personally I do not trust WD's software but it you really need it check WDSecurityHelper and WDDriveUtilityHelper is up to date.

Utorrent has been working the CPU hard recently in addition to Firefox, is that current?

I'd consider disabling Facebook's video chat app if you do not use it I have seen it mentioned in issues here but I can't recall any specific details.

Also check all those pref panes are up to date. They may have system wide access that can cause trouble if they are out of date.

If you want the best performance from this Mac consider backing up & clean installing - it is clear that apps have been installed & forgotten about, some may not have any accurate removal instructions on the web. You can move your user data back, but it would best to reinstall the apps you need.

Is there any place like 'add/remove program' in Windows where I can see what have been installed and uninstalled it from there.

Not really.

Most Mac Apps are 'drag & drop installers' that then create their own local cache files. The OS doesn't really keep track of what they install.

Other apps that are installed via packages do get tracked by the OS, but there is no simple user interface that accurately shows the details. Sadly you are relying on the developer to give you a clean way to remove it.
