An update needs to be issued to iTunes to correct the display of the Sound Recording Copyright symbol ℗. iTunes displays this as (p), but oddly shows the Copyright symbol © correctly.

iTunes displays whatever is embedded in the tag, whether it is the single character ℗ or three characters (P) is in the hands of those who generate the initial information.

That is actually incorrect. All of my music is tagged with the ℗, when I go to the file information page in the Get Info window, the copyright shows (p). This is definitely a bug.
Report it using iTunes Feedback, sign up for a free Apple Developer account and make use of Apple Bug Reporter. They don't generally talk back, but they do claim to read everything.
