Sony DSR 30 Deck not recognised

Hello,

I'm running FCP 3 & 5 and I use a Sony DSR 30 deck. The deck works fine on FCP 3, but having just got a new mac running Tiger and FCP 5, it no longer works.

I have checked on the Fire Bus and it is not listed. My other Firewire devices work and are listed when connected, just not the DSR 30 deck.

I have also trashed my QT receipts and re-installed QT manually, but this has not improved matters.

If my deck is nor showing up on the Fire Wire bus is it fair to conclude it is not supported?

If so is there a fix?

cheers,
Dame

Try a firewire bus reset:

- unplug ALL firewire cables from all ports on the computer
- unplug the power cord from the computer
- let the computer sit for 15-30 minutes (probably takes less time but you want to make sure all power drains from relvent capacitors on the motherboard)

The key point is if there are any connections to the firewire ports on the mac, the machine will not reset the firewire bus.

Also, the sequence of reconnection is important:
- connect the deck to the computer directly (no daisy chaining)
- power up the deck
- plug in the computer
- power up the computer
- check for the presence of the deck using system profiler.

After this if the deck doesn't show up in system profiler, time to take it in for service.

If the deck does show up but doesn't work with FCP, the quicktime-trash receipts and reinstall is the usual solution. It has been noted to take more than one attempt to get it to 'take'.

good luck.

If the computer works with other cameras, the quicktime installation is most likely fine. This points the finger back to the VTR and the way that particular deck interacts with FCP5.

I remember reading that FCP increased the polling frequency to attached decks which knocked out some Panasonic VTRs. There was a bit of code/ script that needed to be added to get them to work.

At this point, a call to Sony service might be the next step.

Good luck getting it sorted out.

Unfortunately I have encountered the same problem. I switched to a new Mac Pro and my Sony deck isn't recognised any more. I reset all the firewire ports as advised and still nothing.
I am now capturing fine through the camera but the deck is not recognised.
Has anyone solved this issue?
Where can I find a list of supported devices?
Thanks all

did you ever get your DSR-30 deck to work with Final Cut Pro? I have two of them and one powers up, but won't allow the power button to engage. to the right front of the deck is a picture of a key. it has an organge light on above it. any idea what that is? have you seen this before? i know this is for FCP, but any help you can give me would be great. thanks
