Issues with imessaging

hi I'm having issues with imessaging I'm unable to iMessage my daughter on her iPad. My husband has a iPhone and it will let me send messages to him but not my daugther . my daugather is unable to send messages to me either. Please advise my and my daughter are new to having iPads.
