itunes has stopped working

itunes has stopped working

When I click to load up iTunes, the programme loads up and then just crashes.

A window come up saying the iTunes has stopped working, A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the problem and notify you if a solution is avaliable.

I am running window 8.1.

Sometimes it lasts longer than others. For example sometimes the 'store' is able to load up, sometimes it crashes as soon as I minimise the program or plug in a device to sync.

I have had this problem since about two updates ago, it worked fine before this.

My drivers and (mcafee) anti virus are all up to date.

I have tried removing all of itunes and then re-installing, this has not worked.

I have also tried to delete any corrupted files, following a process on here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.

Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Thanks but I've attemted all the solution highlighted in the article that you linked, none of them have solved the issue.

Have you tried a full tear down and then the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) version? This often installs correctly when the full 64 bit version doesn't.

I haven't yet, it seems that iTunes is now running fine.

The issue seems to be with when I am connected to the public wifi at my university.

Thanks for your help, I will definately try your suggestion should the issue occur again and will get back to you.

I've seen some threads that suggest iTunes may crash when it has to use some form of proxy service to connect to the iTunes store. Public Wi-Fi probably comes under that heading.
