why won't iMac play any cd or dvd RW discs but fine with normal discs?

Please help!

IMac won't read any dvd-rw or cd-rw discs but will happily play cd-r's,dvd-r's and official film dvd's.

im assuming this has to be a software issue as it will play other discs?

I have a 27in mid 2010 iMac 3.2ghz i3 with 8gb on Yosemite 10.10.2

HL-DT-ST DVDRW GA32N: Firmware revision KC12

i also have a 21.5in late 2009 30.6ghz intel c2d which I'm selling which runs all the discs fine!!

2 possible solutions.
- Try using top brands of CD RW and DVD RW. I used to buy cheap CDs and DVDs and a lot of them didn't work. I changed to Phillips and Verbatim and no problems.
- Close the recording session before using the disc. This is a common problem when using Windows, and perhaps in OS X has the same problem.

Good luck.
