Q: iPod touch 5th gen. and iPhone 4 will not connect to home Wifi.  No issues anywhere else, just at home.  iPhone 6 had the same problem, but was able to correct with network reset.  Tried absolutley everything the boards say and nothing works.  Help.

Brand new iPod 5 and periodically will pick up our home Wifi, but when it loses it, it's impossible to reset.  Says "incorrect password" and it is the correct password.  No issue at all with Android devices or anything else on Wifi.  Only the iPod and an iPhone 4.  My iPhone 6 had the same issue, but I was able to correct it by resetting the network.  This "fix" doesn't work on the iPod or old iPhone.  Just keeps saying "incorrect password" no matter what you do.  Connection has been reset, passwords have been changed... Nothing fixes it.  And both are operating on the latest iOS update.  I just updated it.  Still doesn't work.  How crazy.

Ugh..I have the same problem. My Ipod 5th Gen won't connect  to internet at home but as soon as I go to Apple store it connects. I'm using ATT network. My ipod won't connect on neighbor's internet either and they also have ATT. So now what? I've tried everything. My Computer and ipod 4th gen are both working on the internet connection right now. I don't get why it keeps saying wrong password. It won't even connect if I'm 3 inches away from router. I'm so bummed. I download music all the time and really love my ipod.  So I guess I'll be calling Apple tomorrow to get a new one. Mine's only 6 months old. It was working fine Tuesday and then wed. morning it wouldn't connect. I will never buy another apple product again if they don't fix this problem. I spend a good amount of money buying songs from itunes. I guess I'll just have to start downloading from amazon. heavy sigh.

All the problems that you've had has been happening to me as well. Though my ipod 5th gen happens to be able to connect to the schools district wifi and at my one friends house where his router has 5.0 GHZ and the 2.4 GHZ frequencies and my ipod used to be able to connect to the 2.4 till the update i think...and now it can only connect to the 5.0 GHZ. I dont think that my router, as well as many others, dont send 5.0GHZ, unless the ipod is 'touching' or 3ft away from the router.

I get this mysterious IP Address that shows up as Private when you try and find its location. But the IP is 169.254.189.90

The 169 IP address means that the device could not obtain an IP address from the router and assigned it own IP address.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.

Does the iOS device see the network?

    Any error messages?

    Do other devices now connect?

Did the iOS device connect before?

Try the following to rule out a software problem:

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

    - Power off and then back on your router

.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network

    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network

    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

    - Restore from backup. See:

    iOS: How to back up

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

If still problem  make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Let me guess: You now go to the "Genius Bar" and the first thing they will say is.... drum roll..."Huh, we've NEVER seen this with any of our clients before"

Your problem is precisely what my problem has been for the past 6  months. ("Incorrect Pasword") It began 20 second after the IOS 8.something.something last January. My solution was to spend more money and upgrade to a dual-band router, then switch my iPod Touch 5th gen over to only accessing the 5ghz "media" half of the dual band. Works!

But it's still incredibly fickle compared to all other devices in the house (android, kindle, windows, etc). Last night while streaming Pandora into my home stereo, the iPod lost it's connection. It seemed to take issue with the fact the I had set my on-line Windows laptop on a table near the iPod and in the path of the wifi signal? Because... once I moved the laptop away, and placed it on a more remote table, the ipod re-connected and streamed music.

Pretty certain you'll all call me crazy. This iPod has made me crazy

Went on holiday where we paid for  a Wifi account which we shared. After another switch it started telling me the password was wrong. The 2 iPhones in our family still connected without a problem but the iPod Touch wouldn't connect anymore. Back home the problem continued on our own network so we tried all the resets and recoveries that Apple support suggested. We also tried the network of the neighbours but still no luck. Then back home sitting next to the router it connected.

Reading all your posts and the answers the problem boils down to devices that have no problem detecting networks but needs a really really strong signal to actually make use of the Wifi.

As stated this did not come after a iOS update but that does not rule out a software issue.

As detecting networks and processing the signal are 2 different things I am leaning more to a hardware failure.

As Wifi in Apple stores is strong enough to support a lot of devices it will not show our problem. I am really clueless on how to get any further help from Apple?

iPod Touch 5 having same issue except it will connect at other networks, just not at home.  It will find my home network, but says incorrect password every time.  I connects just fine at starbucks, apple, McDonalds, etc.  but not at home.

Genius bar restored it and it worked fine in their store.  Once home, it failed everytime.  I contacted Comcast and they had me reset router, and change SSID and password.  Still didn't help.  So frusterated

Just saw previous comments about signal strength and tried something.  If I set the ipod directly on top of the router (actually lay it on it so they touch) it will connect.  Connection is extremely slow, but it connects.  As soon as I walk away from the router, signal is lost.

I never actually tried to surf while connected at public places, I only checked for connection.  My theory is a deteriorating receiver in the device.  The signal must be VERY strong to obtain a connection.  I imagine it is a hardware issue with THIS iPod, as it came on suddenly and doesn't effect any of my other devices.  I am still under warranty and will be returning to the Apple store to investigate my theory.

    Iphone 4s

    Version 8.4.1

I havent had this phone for more than a week.  I'm pretty sure it connected before I updated to 8.4.1, but i can't be sure.

I hope everyone's issues have been solved by now.  I just ran into this issue this morning.  Heres what worked for me, although I'm not techy enough to understand why.
    Open router setting page

Change security to "OPEN"    yes, that means no protection

Connected with my phone - successful

Back in router settings, change security to previous settings.

Phone disconnected.  Put password in and successfully connected

    good luck.

edit: i shouldn't say I ran into this issue this morning.  Its been a few days.  I just got around to working with it this morning.

I had the same problems that most of the others had with my daughter's ipod 5 updated to ios9. Two other ipod 5's worked on my internet but with older ios 6.1. I never upgraded them.  Trying for months and found nothing that worked. This is the only solution that actually did work. Thank you very much for posting.

This is not a problem the router! Do see all of us that are having the same exact problem after updating the iOS?! At what point will Apple figure out it is there software?

I Will not update my iPad until my iPod Touch 5th gen functions correctly.
