Howdy LESLIE,


There are two places that you need to be sure you have removed your gmail account settings from. The first is in System Preferences (found under the Apple menu) > Internet Accounts. Is this Google account listed here? If so, select it and click the "-" button in the lower left to delete. See this article for an explanation -


OS X Yosemite: Add your Twitter, Facebook, and other Internet Accounts


You should also check the Mail application's preferences. Go to the Mail menu > Preferences > Accounts > if present select the gmail account and again "-" to delete it. See this article -
