Time Capsule and External Hard Drive Question

Hi All,

I have a new Time Capsule that I have not set up yet and an existing WD External hard drive that is plugged into my iMac. The Time Capsule will be set up in another room where the modem is located. The question is do I still keep the WD external hard drive plugged into my iMac to access older files I want/need or do I just use the Time Capsule?

Sorry if a stupid question

You can use either; unless you have a specific reason to hook the drive up to the Time Capsule(typically, this is done to access it from multiple computers easily), connect it to the iMac.

My current external hard drive is 2TB and just about at capacity so is there a way to combine this with the 3TB Time Capsule to make 5TB or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

No. The drives will be treated as separate volumes.
