Do I need additional software or plug-in to burn a Blu-ray disc from FCP X ? I don't have a external burner yet and need to know if I only need to buy the burner or also additional software/plug-in.

FFor a basic disc you dont need anything extra. Generally it's safest to build the disk image to your hard drive and then burn the disc using Disk Utility.

I Guess primarily because I've always done it that way. It allows me to test the disc authoring to make sure it plays properly and the compression is ok before burning the disc. It also makes it simple to make multiple copies. Keep the disk image and whenever you need another copy, burn it. It also separates the process so if the burn fails you're not starting all over again recompressing the video and audio.

You can burn up to 30 minutes of bluray footage onto a dvd disc with a dvd burner.it will play on a bluray player as a bluraty disc 1080p.
