I have a question for Instant messenger users . A friend of mine sent me a long url that took about 5
windows in instant messenger. I tried to open it, but it would not open. Are there any settings
I need to set on my IPhone 6 or instant messenger to make this work. Also why does it break it up into 5 separate IM windows??

You may want to consult the developer of "instant messenger". There are several apps that include that in their name in the App Store. It may help to specify which one you mean: Yahoo Instant Messenger? IM+?
Hi it is messenger that comes with the phone. Pre installed.
I just checked my settings for the app Messages and by default "Send as SMS" is off by default.
I will check hers but I think it will be the same . Seeing she does not check the settings.

Ok, you mean the Messages app.
Having "Send as SMS" turned off just means that if an iMessage fails, it will not get sent as an SMS. You can still send SMS messages to people who do not have iPhones or do not have iMessage enabled.
Tell your friend to go to bit.ly to create a 'short URL' for that address.
They can send you that & you shouldn't have to worry about the SMS or any other messaging size limitations.
NOTE: there are many other URL shortener services…
