Compatibility and Versions

Greetings.

I think I know that the answer is 'too bad'.

But, I have a large collection of iMovie Projects created in HD 6 and currently have iMovie 10.0.6

The HD 6 projects won't open in 10 and neither my old version of HD 6 or iMovie 9 will open in Yosemite. My Apple ecosystem is dead at 10 years old.

If I were to unearth from the basement an old iMac and start HD 6, what would be the best choice of format to export the projects so that they could be imported into iMovie with the edits, sound, titles, etc.

Is there another choice?

Right click on the version 6 project icon in the Finder.

From the contextual menu choose "Show Package Contents".

All your clips are in there so you can reassemble them in version 10.

Thanks very much for the link. It was helpful.

I was able to open iMovie 6 HD and one of my projects so now can experiment with exporting and re-importing into iMovie 10.

Thanks QTKirk for the suggestion. I know my media is in the project container but the file naming convention (x.dv 001, 002, etc.) means I have to rename the files first to get them to import. Although that can be solved I would rather find a more direct way to get them into (the new) iMovie.
