phone cancellation still sent

Last month an iphone 5s broke with our carrier verizon and a replacement was sent to replace it. A decision was made to leave the provider and cancel the shipment which was done over phone, after doing so the replacement was still sent from verizon is this phone ok to keep as a future replacement for a broken one? It has been one month and they have made no contact with us about it as the rules were to replace the old one and send back the broken one they still sent it after canceling the whole process any feedback or link to this question will be much appreciated the phone is still untouched in plastic
