Why can't I tehter my iPhone with cord?

I am attempting to tether, with the cord to get an internet connection, but cannot. I know how to use the hotspot when it isn't using a cord, but I need the cord. On droid, you do not turn on the hotspot, you turn on tethering in order to connect the actual phone to the computer. There is no option for this in iPhone. I saw another similar post and people kept saying "you don't need a cord" I do, so please, I need help figuring out what needs done to connect the phone directly to the coputer and use the phone as an internet source. I have no wireless drivers, that is why I need to tether. We just switched to iPhones but in thepast when we had pcs with no drivers, in order to access the net, we tethered our droid to download the Ethernet driver. I cannot do this with the iPhone.

So can anyone give me step by step instruction on how to connect the phone directly to the pc in order to get internet access. Again, I do not have wireless drivers so I Cannot connect to a wireless network

I can open an external drive that is in the USB port, and it sees and recognizes it. It also sees the iPhone, but it isn't giving me an internet connection like the droid does

Sounds like Windows sees/recognizes the iPhone. Did you choose the iPhone in your network connections? Does your plan include tethering/personal hotspot?

EDIT

Scratch that. I think you'll need iTunes 9.2 or later to get USB tethering to work properly. You're better off installing the drivers off of a USB flash drive.

iOS: System requirements for Personal Hotspot - Apple Support

To connect to a Personal Hotspot, your device requires:

  • Wi-Fi: Support for 802.11g/n using WPA2 encryption.
  • USB: Mac or PC with iTunes 9.2 or later installed.
  • Bluetooth: Mac OS X v10.4.11 or Windows.

I did read somewhere where there was a way of connecting to the internet via usb with the iPad, but it was only for diagnostics. I do not remember more.

Alternatives...

1) For what it is worth, there have been reports you can connect an lighting to a usb-camera-connection kit to a usb hub to a usb-to- ethernet connector to get an internet connection.

2) ipads communicate wirelessly.

3) carry a wireless up with you like airport express. Plug into your ethernet port. Instant wifi network.

4) iPad to your computer via USB

5) this is one example.

The Android has an open file system and assuming you actually do have the Root USB driver on your PC then it is directly accessing the file system to gain internet access. iOS is a closed system with no direct access to the file management system for security reasons. You would need a network driver in order to see the iPhone and access the hotspot.

Deleting partitions would have nothing to do with Windows network and USB root drivers.
