Need help for sick MBP

Friends, I cannot seem to get my system working as well as my former MacBook still operates. I have replaced the hard drive, gotten rid of troublesome 3rd party apps, and fiddled around with suggestions made in this forum. I still have these major problems:

  • system freezes on wake-up from sleep, usually with a gray screen with a white progress bar.
  • Force quit does not force quit.
  • forced reboots also freeze.
  • Mail often starts with spinning beach ball, then lags
