iPod 5th gen randomly died, not charging?

I have a 32 gig fifth gen iPod touch that's less then a year old and has always worked great. No cracks, never any problems, and updated to the most recent iOS system. I used it about three hours ago, and it was almost full battery and worked great. About an hour and a half later it was completely dead and I hadn't used it at all. Nothing was showing up on the screen like usual to tell me to charge it (like this but the more recent one, couldn't find a picture online)

I got home and put it right on the charger (which I know works, I used it this morning) and it usually turns right back on immediately. This time however, nothing happened. It's been on charge for about half an hour with no sign of responding. What could cause it to randomly black out like this, and is there a way to fix it?

Thank you for your help!

Try:

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

- Try another cable

- Try on another computer

- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
