My iPad or iPhone will not sync with iTunes on my new computer. It synced on my old laptop. New computer is HP Pavilion with Windows 8.1. Error message is "An unknown error occurred(-54)". Latest software on iTunes and iPod. Version 8.0 on iPhone

Have you transferred your library properly from your old computer? In not see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
If you did there is a hint that security permissions might play a part in this error. Try Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.

First connect your iPhone or iPad via the usb cable. Go in to settings on your iPhone or iPad and scroll down to general. scroll down to iTunes wifi sync and you should see your computer in the list. select your computer and then sync now. Once that is done if you try to upload any music to your phone or iPad and it doesn't work delete what ever is on your phone and try again, but it should be empty.
