Illustrator CS6 will not open eps files created by Mathematica

I create eps figures in Mathematica for scientific presentations. I "beautify" the figures in Adobe Illustrator, but now my Illustrator CS6 program will not open the Mathematic EPS files. Any suggestions?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)
