Over Capacity, but NOT!
iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, iOS 8.1.3
A while back I had a similar problem that I tracked down to a phantom 6G assigned to movies. In my case, a Restore was necessary to resolve the issue.
I have a very similar issue but in reverse, the ipad says its nearing capacity but itunes says 10gb free. Have had to restore almost monthly, its getting frustrating. Seems as if it doesnt automatically clear a cache?
Well, here you go...it's fixed now.On the iPad, under Settings / Music, the "Show all music" setting was turned on. I turned it off and now the world is all fixed again. The iPad and iTunes both show the right amounts of free memory, sync and backup are both happy.
I really can't believe it was that simple. Either iTunes or iOS needs a bug fix to deal with this.

That is not a bug, it is simply a user sync oversight. I have never seen it on by default.
Cheers

it was default on mine, both for music and video. Unchecked both of them and re sync.... still the same the ipad is full, yet itunes states 10gb free. This is definitely an Apple error somewhere.
Wouldn't everyone be seeing it instead of just a handful if it were a bug?
Pete
It wasn't a "user oversight". It was a bug and it has now been fixed by the new updates. And no, not everyone needs to see a problem before you count it as a bug.
Anyway, I haven't had the bug since the update and I've loaded everything back onto my iPad without incident.
